No surprise that the Mangawhai Cliff Walk is at the top of this list of these great Summer walks around New Zealand on the 3news Website.
Classified as an ‘easy walk’ it takes 2-3 hours return and is best coming back via the beach at low tide. It follows the coast with wonderful vistas out to Whangarei Heads and the Hen and Chicken Islands. A swim at the end is a must.
Since 1999 at team of volunteers in Mangawhai has hosted the Mangawhai Walking weekend – to be held in 1-3 April. In between the annual walking festival a team of dedicated ‘trackies’ have been developing new walkways – there are now 8 walks available to the public all year round, of which the Cliff Walk is the oldest and most well known.
As well as showcasing these year round walks, the Walking Weekend enables access to private reserves and walkways, and this year includes some walks with a bit of colour (the Blokes Shed walk) and a biking trip. The annual Food and Wine festival is on Saturday night of the weekend and provides a great wind down after a days walking.
