COVID

The Walking Weekend is classified as an event and is therefore covered by the ‘event’ rules under the COVID-19 Protection Framework.

This means that the Walking Weekend can ONLY take place if a vaccine pass is in use.  This applies under the Red (maximum 100 people) and Orange (no limit on numbers) settings. We have no option other than to comply to proceed with the Walking Weekend event.

Vaccine Pass Mandatory

Can I pay on the website?

Yes – indirectly. When you click on the Buy Tickets tab you will be taken to the Eventbrite website and you purchase your tickets through this portal.

Our preference is that tickets are purchased through Eventbrite. However if you are not comfortable with this please contact us on email: secretary.mww@gmail.com or 027-557 0845.

Do I need to fill in the evaluation form?

We ask everyone to do this after each walk. Statistics can only be collated if everyone fills them out. The guides read them and the organiser may make changes as suggested. The comments have helped us enormously over the years.

Is there an ATM?

Yes
There is an ASB ATM next to the Chemist at the Wood Street shops and an independent ATM next to the 4 Square in the Village. EFTPOS is frequently used in Mangawhai.

Dogs

Unfortunately dogs are not permitted on any 2022 Walking Weekend walks.  In past years we have had a farm Doggie Walk and may look to reinstate it in the future.
Dogs are not permitted on the Clifftop Walk or any of the Tanekaha Tracks at any time, both areas are managed by DOC and are Kiwi  Protection Zones.

Dog friendly: The estuary and surf beach are dog friendly with some areas requiring ‘on lead’ restrictions. Dogs can walk on the Goldschmidt Track and on lead through the Mangawhai Park.  Where can I walk my Dog in Kaipara?

Our beautiful beaches and estuary are the home to many shore birds, some endangered. Here in Mangawhai we love to protect them as best we can.

How long do I need to allow for the walks?

Indicative walk times are included in the walk summaries. All walk times include traveling time from the Domain and returning to the Domain. Please ensure you are under your walk banner at the Registration Centre 15 minutes before the registration time showing on your ticket. This gives us time to run through the mandatory safety checks.

Lunch Packs

There are many places to buy lunch in Mangawhai – at the Heads (Wood St) and the Village. However you may need to buy the day before to ensure you arrive at the Domain in time for your walk start. We are not offering  packaged lunches in 2021.

Our intention is to run the weekend rain or shine – unless it is unsafe to do so. Please come equipped ready to walk in rain. If we need to cancel we will advise you by email and place a notice on the website and on our facebook page.

What happens if the walk I want to book is full?

Walks have limited numbers and will automatically ‘sell out’ when maximum number is reached. You can email us and ask to be put on a wait list. We will let you know if a place becomes available on your preferred walk.
