This walk is like unwrapping a present and discovering something new as each layer is removed.
Starting and finishing at Te Arai Point car park you will climb to a trig, take in 360 degree panoramic views, learn about the area’s fascinating history and its connection to Cornwall Park, discover what’s planned for the future on either side of the Point, hear about the crusade to save the critically endangered Tara iti (NZ Fairy Tern) and enjoy lunch in the dunes at Forestry beach, before an energetic climb over the Te Arai headland back to your starting point.
- Degree of difficulty: Generally easy walking with two short (100 metre) steep (45 degree) climbs up to the trig and the headland ridge
- Grade 3: Max 25 walkers
- Equipment: Sturdy footwear recommended but good walking shoes ok. Poles handy but not essential. Bring morning tea, lunch and water
