Can you help the Mangawhai Walking Weekend keep going?

Tanekaha Waterfall Mangawhai
Tanekaha Waterfall

I hope you have been out and about enjoying these glorious summer days; it has been beautiful here in Mangawhai and the ocean temperatures are just perfect for swimming. With lots of visitors in town, the Tanekaha Tracks have been very busy on these hot days of summer with those few cooling waterfalls perfect for a delicious dip.

We now have a few midweek walking groups here, so plenty of opportunities for those that love to walk to share the joy of our tracks with others. Whether it be ocean, estuary or bush, there is much on offer.

  • The new shared pathway between Wood Street and the Village has been recently completed, with room for pedestrians, bikers and mobility carts and scooters. It’s great to see such an asset safely connecting the Heads to the Village
  • It has also been very exciting to see the many Te Araroa Trail (TA) walkers passing through Mangawhai. It’s truly inspiring to see so many kiwis on the trail along with the many overseas adventurers, enjoying our beautiful walking networks from the Cape to Bluff.

Although the Mangawhai Walking Weekend has been on hold, with no event planned for this year, we are keen to see this iconic Mangawhai event continue in the future. Our reduced team of just two is seeking a group or organisation that may be interested in taking over the organisation of the Mangawhai Walking Weekend.

  • It’s a well organised event with systems in place to make the organising easy but we do need a team of at least 5 or 6 people to do this.
  • The entire event has always been run by volunteers, with all proceeds being distributed to the Mangawhai Trackies, who started this whole idea in the first place with the mantra “build the tracks and people will come”, and they did, and still are, and with new tracks being developed, the choice is extensive.
  • So with all of the wonderful walking activity about town these days we are hopeful that some will be interested in ensuring the continuation of the Walking Weekend in some form.
