This walk combines two significant tracks within the Tanekaha track network, the Botanical and the Puriri, together with sections of the Falls and Forest Tracks, to make a reasonably strenuous 4 – 5 hour walk.
Beginning with an easy stroll beside a pristine stream it joins the Puriri Track with its spectacular examples of ancient puriri, rimu and wonderful views across the valley. A vigorous climb leads back to the Falls Track and a short detour to the remains of a kauri dam before descending past a series of spectacular waterfalls to join the Botanical Track. This track gently rises and falls along the 100m contour through outstanding native forest before joining the Forest Track and descending back to the little swing bridge.
- Degree of difficulty: A serious walk requiring a good level of fitness
- Grade 4: Max 20 walkers
- Equipment: Boots compulsory. Poles if you use them. Bring morning tea, lunch and water.
